The top of the barrel is marked Guss Stahl Lauf. There is a post rear sight mount but the sight is missing. The Rifle was manufactured by Cordes of Bremmerhaven in the 1850s in the Swiss Federal Rifle pattern Cordes was one of the more important smiths of the period, the rifle itself was undoubtidly a commisioned piece for a private customer who fancied the then new Swiss M1851.
